Pumpkins For Good!
Red Stars split into two groups this week because our 4th and 5th graders took a special field trip.
3rd Grader Recap:
We learned about the Teal Pumpkin Project which raises food allergy awareness and offers the option of non-food trinkets and toys in a separate bowl. It makes Halloween safer and more fun for all trick-or-treaters. Students painted Teal Pumpkins that we hope you will put out for Halloween along with some non-food treats on Halloween. You can add your address to the 2026 Teal Pumpkin Project Map so that people looking for allergy-safe treats know where they can find some on Halloween night.
Questions to ask your students:
1) Why might trick-or-treating be hard for kids with food allergies?
2) What are some non-food treats that your house could offer?
4th/5th Grader Recap:
We went to the United Parish of Auburndale to lend a hand in their pumpkin patch. Their annual pumpkin sale is a fundraiser that helps fund their Service fund. So, as our 4th/5th graders so aptly summarized, we were helping them help the community. :)
Questions to ask your students:
1) What task did you do at the pumpkin patch?
2) Where do the leftover pumpkins that don't sell go at the end of their sale? (Answer: Unity Farms)
